GPA Calculator
How the GPA Calculator Works:
Grades and Credit Hours:
- Each grade a student receives corresponds to a certain number of grade points. Typically, the scale is:
- A = 4.0
- B = 3.0
- C = 2.0
- D = 1.0
- F = 0.0
- Some GPA calculators also take into account credit hours, which represent the weight of each course. For example, a 3-credit-hour course would have more weight than a 1-credit-hour course.
GPA Calculation with Credit Hours:
- If the GPA calculator is designed to consider credit hours (for weighted GPA calculation), it uses a slightly different formula:
GPA= (Grade 1×Credit Hours 1)+(Grade 2×Credit Hours 2)+… / Total Credits Hours
- Example:
- Suppose a student takes 3 courses: one with 3 credit hours and grades 3.5, one with 4 credit hours and grades 3.7, and another with 2 credit hours and grades 3.9. The GPA would be calculated like this:
- GPA= (3.5×3)+(3.7×4)+(3.9×2) / 3+4+2 = 10.5+ 14.8 + 7.8 / 9 =33.1 / 9 =3.678
